TRAC (Tracking Residues and Contaminants)

Eurofins GeneScan jointly with RQA, the Illinois Crop Improvement Association offer the TRAC System - to verify that customer requirements and standards related to residues and contaminants are met.

Consumers consistently say that the presence of pesticides in their food is one of their highest food safety concerns. TRAC is a program that will enable companies anywhere along the food chain to systematically monitor and control the residue levels of EPA-FIFRA controlled chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc.) in agricultural commodities, food ingredients, animal feed and final products.

Using a risk assessment approach, TRAC is a quality system, verified and monitored by an independent third party that allows an agri-food company to increase the market acceptance and value of their product and brand name by:

Making a proactive statement in the marketplace concerning product quality,

Verifying that all vendors are meeting residue specifications (type of chemicals applied, application rate, residue levels, etc),

Controlling costs by identifying and not delivering product that does not meet client specifications,

Meeting regulatory requirements for imported or exported products,

Defending a brand name from NGO attacks and the related media attention,

Mitigating insurance and diversion costs by having an aggressive plan to control residues within their supply chain,

Documenting the application of all pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides and similar chemicals in their supply chain,

Minimizing possible cross contamination of product by pesticide residues, and

Delivering a product that consistently meets quality specifications.

The TRAC System provides independent and cost effective:

Sampling of product throughout the supply chain.

Testing at internationally recognized laboratories.

Monitoring or inspection of activities or processes.

Organization and storage of test results and documentation.

The TRAC System offers a comprehensive, transparent source of information that may be used to:

Verify residue and contaminant levels.

Provide Certificates of Compliance to customers.

Obtain Contaminated Product Insurance Coverage.

The TRAC System offers residue and contaminant identification and verification throughout the supply chain. The TRAC System's design ensures the integrity of a food commodity from seed or animal stock to customer.
